I liked it! A lot!

Kinja'd!!!

Hyundai did what they set out to with this. It’s not as fast as the focus st or even my old mkvi GTI, but it was definitely more engaging and fun.

Kinja'd!!!

Build quality was better than the rentals I’ve driven before. The dealer I was at said he’d go below invoice. He wanted it gone, and wasn’t interested in charging over sticker. He said he had a n-spec coming in a couple weeks. If I was in the market I’d be interested, but can’t help but wonder about the competition having four real doors if you have kids. I would not want to deal with that. But for the right person, I’d recommend it.

The N is significantly faster than even the Mk7 GTI and the Focus ST though...

Minor nit: That wide, glossy bezel around the infotainment screen just screams “First-gen HDTV!”

Truly I find the reflections distracting -- both on the TVs and in the car.

and will be worse in a car that on a tv in your living room. think about how the sun will move across that as you drive around.

I did, and was honest about the fact that I was not buying today. Got a unescorted test drive for my trouble.

the exterior is the sort of aggressive that would have it competing for attention from folks shopping for GTIs, but that interior is solidly base model. Very disappointing inside.

People overrate the need for back doors with kids.  When you have a car seat with latch, it’s not a problem to reach back there.  When you have young kids, they are nimble and are happy to scramble back there to be in a “cool” car (just ask my nephews in their mom’s Integra).  When you have teenagers, they can STFU and squish themselves in for the short ride in town.

Focus st and Veloster both have 250/252 hp 2 liter engines. In reality, they're both probably similar. It's been a while since my I'd GTI. It didn't feel like it shoved you back like the focus, but it could just be more composed. It's definitely not a negative

Its odd in that if I'm really giving it all, I'm not able to watch those fancy stats. Does it record, I wonder?

Ah, you didn’t drive the performance pack. That has hit 60 in 5.2 seconds, though I want to say the i30 N has been clocked at 4.9.

These things are all true. My issue is sometimes you got a tight parking spot on one side, and it's "everybody out the other side! This kinda prevents that.

Correct. Performance pack was arriving later in the month.

Been on many test drives, never an unescorted one. Guess I don’t look trust worthy enough ;)

State law comes into play, too. When I lived in Indiana, dealer had to drive it off the lot. Required by law. Then you did a switcheroo a minute or two in

The red accents look fantastic. I feel these don't get half the recognition they deserve.

I had someone driving one of those try and drag race me in the 7 series the day I was running open headers. It was a blast until a c op appeared a moment after we lifted and proceeded to follow me almost all the way home.

I have never in my life tipped into the throttle from a stop as gingerly as I did with that cop behind me. Still kinds shocked he never lit me up because that thing was ridiculoud.

VERY nice! I would be perfectly happy with even a base Veloster I think! I was one of the weird ones that I actually liked the first-gens as well, but I think they really did a good job on the styling on the new generation!
